Global Resource Companies Look to Drive High Performance and Compliance

Competency Training expanding capability through Australia and into Asia

Competency Training is assisting global resource companies to respond to challenging market conditions by ensuring their workforces maximise their skills and knowledge, including to meet Australian qualifications and site standards.

This has created a unique market opportunity for Australian training and assurance businesses to deliver courses, audits and competency solutions both offshore and on-site.

While there are a number of acknowledged challenges in the energy and resources sector, Steve Lonton, Director of leading high performance workforce provider, Competency Training, said it remains a key priority for resource sector management to ensure their teams are optimised and fully compliant with legislation and standards.

“Resource and energy companies in Australia and throughout Asia are looking for cost effective and timely solutions, integrating training to Australian standards without the need for costly airfares and logistical support.

“Competency Training is now working directly with a number of Asian training providers to support resource companies to meet the challenge of delivering Australian qualifications to their international workforces.

“This includes, in some cases, provision of highly experienced inspectors to deliver safety audits and identify training and process engineering gaps.”

Within Australia, Competency Training, which successfully graduates more than 5,000 students each year, and provides site assurance solutions to a range of Australian and international corporations, has seen a rapid expansion in its range of courses and education programs.

The changing nature of the business is reflected in the company’s new go-to-market approach under a new corporate identity and banner, launched nationally and internationally this week.

“Our new training complex at Salisbury in Brisbane has taken on its first students this week, complementing our existing facilities in Western Australia and Queensland, plus our international operations,” Mr Lonton said.

“Our trainers have real world experience, and our customised education and training solutions deliver workers who are job-ready for immediate start on-site for regional projects.”
